Craving for something healthy but tasty? What about teaming this yummy dish with fresh Chinese spinach, stir fried with abalone sauce?
Silken tofu with fried ginger, garlic, chillies and shallots topping
This dish is really easy to prepare, perfect when you need a quick fix of protein accompanied with your daily dose of healthy greens! All you need to purchase from the Asian groceries are:
- Silken tofu (in a packet)
- Ginger, garlic, small chillies and shallots
- Coriander and spring onions (optional)
- Soy sauce
- Dark soya sauce
- Sesame oil
Method
1. Place the tofu in a bowl or small plate. Steam it in a steamer pot or a wok filled with water (place the plate on a wok stand). This process is to heat the tofu before adding the topping.
2. Chop some garlic, slice some ginger into thin shreds. The shallots and small chillies can be finely chopped too. Fry all ingredients with some vegetable oil until fragrant.
3. Chop some spring onions and coriander.
4. Once tofu is well heated in the steamer, remove it from the steamer or wok (carefully as it will be hot) with some kitchen towels.
5. Top the tofu with the fried ingredients.
6. Drizzle it with some sesame oil, some cracked pepper, dark soy sauce and soy sauce. Spread it with the chopped coriander and spring onions. More chopped fresh chilies is optional.
If some healthy Chinese green vegetables tickles your tastebuds, you can purchase Chinese spinach (choy sum) or Chinese broccoli (kai lan) or other greens and stir fry them with heated vegetable oil in a wok, tossed in with chopped garlic and ginger. Drizzle some abalone sauce (similar to oyster sauce, but BETTER) and add some water to make it saucy. You may top it with some oyster sauce.
Compliment both tofu and stir fry veges with some boiled rice. Bon Appetite!
